To add some sunshine when it’s gloomy check out these spring activities for kids! Rainy Day Classroom Activities for Spring
From crafts to games to activities don’t let rainy make you feel like you’re stuck indoors! These spring activities will brighten anyone up!
Start by flattening out the cupcake liner so it’s a flat circle. Then color or decorate the liner any way you like. When it’s all decorated tape a straw on the back like a flower stem. Make several flowers to form a bouquet and put them in the cup or vase.
OR add in a touch of math fact practice and make a flower craft with an academic twist. Grab this Spring Math Fact Flower Template. It can easily be done as a stand-alone craft or it can be turned into a beautiful spring bulletin board with the letters included, “Grow Your Math Fact Fluency”.
Rainy Day Classroom Activity: DIY Windchime
There are so many sounds of spring! Make your own music with this rainy day spring activity. It’s perfect for your spring soundtrack.
For this craft you will need:
- Hanger
- Yarn
- Paint
- Things that make sounds like keys, tin cans, or popsicle sticks
Select several sound-making items. You can have all cans or keys or pick a variety of items. Make them fancy by painting the items you selected. After drying tie one end of the yarn to the items and hang them from a hanger. Now you have your own wind chime!
Springy Butterfly
There’s something cheery about watching butterflies flutter around. This spring rainy day craft will brighten your day!
For this craft you will need:
- Coffee filters
- Clothes pin
- Pipe cleaner
- Markers

Start off by coloring the coffee filter in any pattern. To give it a tie-dye effect sprinkle the colored filter with water and let dry. Then gather the coffee filter in the middle and clip the clothespin on it. Fluff out both sides of the filter to form the butterfly wings. Then bend a pipe cleaner into a V shape to make the antennae and secure it into the clothes pin.
Rainy Day Classroom Games for Spring
Kids love getting outdoors to play as the weather warms up. Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean they can’t still play the outdoor games they love…just bring them indoors! Here’s how to do rainy day activities for spring inside.
Rainy Day Classroom Activity: Indoor Hopscotch
This is an easy rainy day activity!
For this game you will need:
- Masking or painters tape
- Small object like a block or ball
Create your own hopscotch game with tape! Find an area on the floor big enough to tape out a hopscotch block. Then using the small object, toss it into the square and hop away!
DIY Basketball Hoop
Too wet to shoot hoops? Make your own indoor basketball hoop! This is a favorite spring activity for kids!
For this game you will need:
- Paper grocery bag
- Markers
- Crumpled up balls of paper
- Tape
Start by cutting off the bottom of the grocery bag. Kids can then decorate the bag to look like a basketball hoop or in any other way they choose. Tape their hoop up on a door or wall. Crumple up balls of paper for the basketball. Now you’re all set to shoot hoops!
Make it fun by playing a game of HORSE, PIG or Around the World!
Digital Games
Get your whole class involved in a community-building digital game spring-themed of course! There are many to check out in my store, but my favorite is Spring Favorites! The kids will be up and moving and showing off some of their favorites about the season!

There are more spring activities that can be done indoors besides crafts and games. Here are some spring rainy day classroom activities!
Rainy Day Classroom Activity: Bubble Monsters
Blowing bubbles is popular in the spring. Here is a fun idea to blow bubbles inside!
For this activity you will need:
- Plastic tube or extra-larged straw
- Scrap of material like from an old sock
- Tape
- Bubble soap or ½ cup of water mixed with 2 T of dish soap
- Plastic mat or cookie sheet
First, make your special bubble-blowing wand by taping the material scrap to the end of the tube. Mix up your soap into a bowl. Dip the sock end of the tube into the soap. Then blow on the other end of the tube over the mat and watch the bubble monster grow! You can add food coloring to the bubbles to make them more interesting.
Indoor Obstacle Course
Can’t get to the park on a rainy day? Bring the park indoors with this spring activity! Build an obstacle course!
For this activity you’ll need:
- Blankets
- Chairs/stools
- Tables
- Hula hoops
- Cones
- Anything else you may have to build an obstacle course
Find an open area in your home to set the stage for the obstacle course. Using items around your house create your own obstacle course. Include a mixture of elements that involve crawling under, hopping over, or going through. Then let your kiddos run through the obstacle course! Make it a timed event. Swap things around. Play music to make it extra fun.
Last but not least…COLORING!
